EsSEx is a Higher Education Training Establishment, from the Military Health Education Line.

- Train officers of the Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists of the Health Service and Nurses and veterinarians of the Complementary Staff of officers for the active service of the Army;

- Coordinate the Postgraduate courses of Health Service Officers, Nursing QCO, Veterinarian, Health Psychology, Warrant Officers and Health Sergeants (PROCAP-Sau);

- Contribute to the development of military doctrine in the area of ​​its competence;

- Conduct research in the area of ​​its competence, including, if necessary, with the participation of similar institutions;

- Teach internships on subjects peculiar to EsSEx.
